Batik Air Malaysia (airline code OD) is the Malaysian airline that flew as Malindo Air until April 2022. In Kuala Lumpur it uses two airports: Terminal 1 at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL), known as KLIA, and Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (SZB) at Subang. It flies to airports in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak, listed below with the routes recorded for each.

Which Kuala Lumpur airport Batik Air Malaysia uses

At KLIA, Batik Air Malaysia checks in and flies from Terminal 1, which it runs as its main hub. It also flies from Subang, reported in October 2025 as its secondary base, with extra slots granted there.

Several routes in the table below are recorded from both airports. Check the airport code on your booking before you set off: KUL is KLIA and SZB is Subang.

Batik Air Malaysia baggage allowance on domestic flights

Batik Air Malaysia's baggage page, last updated on 17 August 2026, sets the free checked baggage allowance by fare. On domestic routes, which share their allowance with ASEAN routes, it is:

FareFree checked baggage
Business Flexi40 kg
Business Promo30 kg
Economy Flexi25 kg
Economy Value15 kg
Super Savernone

A Super Saver fare includes no checked bag. On direct flights to and from Subang that Batik Air Malaysia operates itself, the same page lists a free upgrade to 10 kg for Super Saver, which the airline says can change without notice. No single checked bag may weigh more than 32 kg.

Cabin baggage

  • Economy: one cabin bag and one personal item, such as a laptop bag or an overcoat, weighing no more than 7 kg together
  • Business: two cabin bags and one personal item, weighing no more than 10 kg together
  • in either cabin, also a small handbag or pouch, and one bag of duty-free goods bought at the airport before the flight
  • a cabin bag must not measure more than 56 x 36 x 23 cm; a bag that does is taken off you and loaded as checked baggage

Cabin baggage over the allowance is charged by the kilogram at the boarding gate.

Extra baggage, power banks and strollers

You can add checked baggage through Manage Booking, or through the airline's customer care centre, up to 12 hours before departure. You cannot add it once you have checked in online. Baggage over your allowance at the check-in counter is charged at the excess baggage rate, which the airline's own tables price higher than buying the same weight in advance.

You may carry at most two power banks. Batik Air Malaysia says they must be carried on your person, not packed in a cabin bag or a checked bag, and must not be used on board.

Baby strollers and manual wheelchairs are carried free, do not count against the allowance, and can be used up to the boarding gate. You sign a limited release tag for them at check-in.

Changing or cancelling a Batik Air Malaysia ticket

Batik Air Malaysia's fare rules for Malaysia, last updated on 28 April 2026, set what each fare allows. Every change also costs any difference in fare, and you cannot change the route.

FareChange more than 4 hours before departureChange within 4 hours of departureIf you miss the flight
Super Saverwith a change feenot allowed; the ticket is lostthe ticket is lost
Economy Valuefirst change without a change fee; later changes with onewith a change feethe ticket is lost
Economy Flexiunlimited changes without a change feewith a change feethe ticket is lost
Business Promowith a change feewith a change feethe ticket is lost
Business Flexiunlimited changes without a change feewith a change feecan be reissued within 72 hours of the original departure, with a change fee

On every fare you can take an earlier flight on the same day of departure by paying the fare difference. A Super Saver or Economy Value ticket changed to a Business Class seat more than 4 hours before departure pays no change fee, only the fare difference.

A ticket not used at all can be refunded, less a cancellation fee, if you cancel more than 72 hours before departure, on every fare except Super Saver. Within 72 hours of departure there is no refund, and none for a ticket already partly used. Change and cancellation fees are not refunded. On a journey of several flights, the most restrictive fare's rules apply to the whole journey.

Check-in: what to confirm with Batik Air Malaysia

Check-in deadlines are the airline's to set, and they can change. Before you fly, check these on batikair.com.my or on your booking:

  • when check-in counters and the boarding gate close at your departure airport
  • which identity document the airline accepts at check-in for a domestic flight

Make sure any baggage rule you read is for Batik Air Malaysia. The Batik Air help centre also covers Batik Air Indonesia (code ID), the Lion Air Group's Indonesian airline of the same name, and its free baggage allowance article gives figures for Batik Air Indonesia, not for Batik Air Malaysia.

Baggage pages under the old Malindo Air name date from before the April 2022 renaming, so do not rely on them for a current allowance.

Documents for Batik Air Malaysia flights to and from Sabah and Sarawak

Batik Air Malaysia's recorded routes include Kota Kinabalu and Tawau in Sabah, and Kuching, Bintulu and Sibu in Sarawak. Their rules differ, so read the one for where you are landing.

Arriving in Sarawak from Peninsular Malaysia

Peninsular Malaysian travellers landing in Kuching, Bintulu or Sibu go to an immigration counter in the arrival hall, even though the flight is domestic. The counter issues a free, single-journey Document in Lieu of Internal Travel Document on a MyKad or other accepted identification (age 12 and over) or a birth certificate (under 12), with a Social or Business Visit Pass of up to three months.

Flying to Sabah

Peninsular Malaysian travellers landing in Kota Kinabalu or Tawau go to the same kind of immigration counter as in Sarawak, which issues the same free, single-journey Document in Lieu of Internal Travel Document. The Section 66 exemption endorsement is a separate, narrower provision for civil servants transferred to Sabah and their dependants; it is issued by the Sabah State Immigration Department only and does not apply in Sarawak.

Leaving Sabah or Sarawak

For a domestic flight out of Sabah or Sarawak, the Immigration Department's list of accepted documents includes a Malaysian international passport, a Restricted Travel Document, a MyKad or other National Registration Department identification such as a birth certificate or MyKid, form IMM93, or an armed forces or police authority card. Carry one of them with a valid boarding pass, as proof that you are a genuine passenger.

Batik Air Club

Batik Air Club is the airline's frequent-flyer programme. It launched on 23 January 2025, replacing Malindo Miles, and at launch points could be earned on eligible Batik Air Malaysia fares and redeemed for flights across Lion Air Group airlines.

History, ownership and aircraft

Malindo Air became Batik Air on 28 April 2022, when the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) granted its operating company a new Air Operator's Certificate under the Batik Air name. The change gave the Malaysian airline the branding of the Lion Air Group's Indonesian full-service airline, Batik Air, to present one identity across the group.

Batik Air Malaysia's shareholders include Malaysia's Sky One Investors and Indonesia's Lion Air Group, and reports differ on the exact split. In October 2025 the airline was reported to be planning to develop KLIA as a regional transit hub, with Subang as its secondary base.

In the same October 2025 reporting, its fleet was described as Airbus A330-300 widebodies and Boeing 737-8 and 737-800 narrowbodies.

Questions about Batik Air Malaysia

Which KLIA terminal does Batik Air Malaysia use?

It uses Terminal 1 at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The airline also flies from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport at Subang, so check whether your booking shows KUL or SZB.

Is Batik Air Malaysia the same airline as Malindo Air?

Yes. Malindo Air was renamed Batik Air on 28 April 2022 under a new Air Operator's Certificate from CAAM, and Batik Air Club replaced the Malindo Miles programme in January 2025.

How much checked baggage does a Batik Air Malaysia domestic fare include?

It depends on the fare: 40 kg on Business Flexi, 30 kg on Business Promo, 25 kg on Economy Flexi, 15 kg on Economy Value and none on Super Saver, according to the airline's baggage page updated on 17 August 2026. On direct Subang flights operated by Batik Air Malaysia, Super Saver is listed with a free 10 kg.

Can I change a Batik Air Malaysia Super Saver ticket?

Yes, up to 4 hours before departure, with a change fee and any fare difference. Within 4 hours of departure a Super Saver ticket cannot be changed, and it cannot be refunded at any time.

Is Batik Air Malaysia the same airline as Batik Air Indonesia?

No. Both carry the Batik Air brand within the Lion Air Group, but Batik Air Malaysia uses the code OD and Batik Air Indonesia uses ID. Check that a baggage or fare rule you are reading names Batik Air Malaysia before you rely on it.
