Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (SZB), which its operator Malaysia Airports also calls Subang Airport, is Kuala Lumpur's older airport. It sits in Subang, Selangor, 17 km west of Kuala Lumpur Tower. It is a different airport from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA, airport code KUL).
Two airline moves in 2025 changed what Subang is used for. AirAsia moved its domestic services from Subang to KLIA Terminal 2 on 7 April 2025, and Firefly began moving its Boeing 737 jet services to KLIA Terminal 1 on 19 August 2025; its parent, Malaysia Aviation Group, had said in July 2025 that the turboprop services would stay at Subang. Domestic flights recorded from Subang are on Firefly and Batik Air Malaysia, and the Transport Minister said in July 2024 that a night curfew would limit aircraft operations between 22:00 and 06:00.
AirAsia announced on 6 March 2025 that its domestic services at Subang would relocate to KLIA Terminal 2, effective 7 April 2025. The airline described the move as consolidating its domestic operations at KLIA Terminal 2.
Firefly's parent, Malaysia Aviation Group, announced on 30 July 2025 that Firefly's Boeing 737 jet operations would move from Subang to KLIA Terminal 1, route by route, from 19 August to 3 September 2025. The same Malaysia Aviation Group release said Firefly's turboprop services would continue from Subang. Since then Firefly has used both Kuala Lumpur airports.
The airlines recorded on domestic routes from Subang are Firefly and Batik Air Malaysia. Batik Air Malaysia added its Subang services to Johor Bahru and Langkawi in December 2025.

Malaysia Airports reported that Subang handled 191,000 passengers in December 2025, up from 142,000 the month before, the strongest month-on-month growth across its network.
The Transport Minister said in July 2024 that a night curfew would limit aircraft operations at Subang between 22:00 and 06:00. He gave its purpose as controlling aircraft noise over nearby residential areas. The curfew was reported in February 2026 as maintained.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) aerodrome listing, in its March 2025 edition, gives the terminal building's hours in UTC, which is 05:00 to midnight Malaysia time, with access outside those hours by prior arrangement.
Passenger flights use the Skypark Terminal. It handles international as well as domestic passengers.
The interim upgrade finished in mid-2024 gave the terminal separate domestic and international baggage reclaim areas, extended both holding lounges and added three boarding gates, one international and two domestic. It also raised the immigration counters from three to four for departures and from three to eight for arrivals.
In January 2026, Malaysia Airports' senior manager at Subang said the check-in counters, departure area, immigration counters and toilets had been upgraded ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026. Check-in deadlines are set by each airline, so check Firefly's or Batik Air Malaysia's before travelling.
The terminal company, Subang Skypark, puts the Skypark Terminal about 24 km from KL Sentral, around 30 minutes off-peak. Its website, which carries a 2019 date, lists taxi counters, car hire and parking at the terminal.
The Skypark Link rail service between KL Sentral and the terminal was suspended in February 2023 because few people used it. In July 2024 the Transport Minister said it would resume once the new terminal was ready, which he then expected in 2027 or 2028.
The main access road was congested in July 2024, when the Transport Minister said it would be upgraded under the regeneration plan. Allow for traffic when timing a trip to the airport.
Batik Air Malaysia's recorded routes from Subang include Kota Kinabalu in Sabah and Kuching in Sarawak. The rules below apply in Sabah and Sarawak, not at Subang.
Under Section 66 of the Immigration Act 1959/63, a Malaysian citizen is subject to having a pass or permit to enter Sabah and Sarawak. Malaysians from Peninsular Malaysia can get a Document in Lieu of Internal Travel Document at the immigration counters in the Sabah and Sarawak airport arrival halls, free of charge.
It covers a single journey, with a social or business visit pass of up to three months. It needs an identity card for anyone aged 12 or over, or a birth or adoption certificate for a younger child, and a stay longer than three months needs a Restricted Travel Document instead.
For the flight back to Subang, the Immigration Department lists the documents it accepts when leaving Sabah or Sarawak on a domestic flight, including a Malaysian passport, a Restricted Travel Document and a MyKad. A boarding pass is also required.
The Subang Airport Regeneration Plan has three parts, according to the Transport Ministry in February 2026: an aerospace ecosystem, business aviation and a city airport terminal. In August 2025 the Transport Minister said the plan would continue, with its direction depending on how Malaysia Airports leads it following the company's privatisation.
No, they are different airports. Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport is at Subang, 17 km west of Kuala Lumpur Tower, with the code SZB, and KLIA's code is KUL.
Firefly has used both Kuala Lumpur airports since August 2025. Malaysia Aviation Group said in July 2025 that Firefly's Boeing 737 jet services would move to KLIA Terminal 1 and its turboprop services would continue from Subang. Check the airport code on a Firefly booking: SZB is Subang and KUL is KLIA.
AirAsia moved its domestic services from Subang to KLIA Terminal 2, effective 7 April 2025.
Not late at night: the Transport Minister said in July 2024 that a night curfew would limit aircraft operations at Subang between 22:00 and 06:00, to control noise. The curfew was reported in February 2026 as maintained.
The Skypark Link rail service from KL Sentral was suspended in February 2023. In July 2024 the Transport Minister said it would resume once the new terminal was ready, which he then expected in 2027 or 2028.
