It lists the airport administration, customs and immigration from 0000 to 0900 UTC, so the airport is not listed as open around the clock. CAAM's entry lists one asphalt runway, designated 04/22, 1,920 m long and 45 m wide, and its rescue and firefighting section names the A320 as the largest aircraft. Records differ on the length: a Perak state official, quoted by The Star on 29 July 2026, put the runway at 1,950 m. The same official said the runway limited the types of aircraft that could operate at the airport.
In January 2025, the Housing and Local Government Minister put the airport's 2024 traffic at about 512,000 passengers, against a capacity of 500,000. Malaysia Airports then said on 25 April 2025 that its terminal optimisation project was officially complete, and that annual capacity had risen from 500,000 to 700,000 passengers. AirAsia's route page lists the Ipoh to Johor Bahru flight as direct, with a flight time of 55 minutes. The same page advises arriving at the airport 2 to 3 hours before your scheduled departure.
BAS.MY Ipoh, a stage-bus programme funded by the Ministry of Transport, launched on 24 February 2025 with routes from Medan Kidd bus station, and the airport was among the destinations listed at the launch. Route A37, listed as Medan Kidd - LTSAS - Taman Botani, serves the airport; LTSAS stands for Lapangan Terbang Sultan Azlan Shah, the airport's Malay name. The operator named for the route is The Combined Bus Services Sdn Bhd.
